On Technology

So it has been a very long time since I last bought a new laptop..I am not sure when it was..but it was over 4 years ago anyways…I ve only had two laptops prior and both of them are pretty much dead. . ..

The latest one prior to my new laptop is actually a hand me down from my younger brother…who decided to build a PC to support him in his efforts to become the worlds best dota player..or something like that.

I am simply loving my laptop..its the newest MacBook Air that came out this year…It feels so light…so slick..so shiny…thinking back to my first splurge in the laptop industry.. it was also pink…a back then popular “Sony Vaio” ..It was so in then..and I am not sure how I managed to afford it as a kid…I remember it was like $1699 some insane price…I ve never been really good at investing in technology..and either I buy really expensive shitty stuff that looks great..or I don’t want to spend and buy pieces of crap that break easily..and hence I waste a lot of money.

Anyways, two years ago…after being an avid fan of Android phones…I suddenly decided to try an iPhone..it was hard…Get a nicer and newer Android phone or get a really old generation of I phone? I took the gamble..I am not one to run after the newest technology..I wait until it is cheaper and then I decide to spend.

SOOO long story cut extremely short, I got my first every apple product! An iPhone 5s in 2016. LOLS yes I know it is very very old. But, so am I.

Anyways, I fell in love with its simplicity… it’s effectiveness, no nonsense simple to use and understand technology. No fancy shit. Just what it is. It doesn’t try to be the best. It KNOWs its the best. It is not insecure. Its a secure piece of technology.

I am now riding on the cloud…the Apple cloud and it is hard to go back. It is so convenient that everything that I upload on the cloud has become so easily accessible through the cloud sky technology.

Another aspect that I have heard that is great about Apple, is that they do not sell your information and impede in your privacy..as google does..apparently.. Well, recently in the news apparently the secret services will start to have access to all our encrypted messages…that is scary… it is probably already happening, but we didn’t know it.

What happened to privacy? Do we go back to sending letters or does every letter get read in the post office? Who knows?

isn’t funny how technology has changed so much in the last 10-20 years?

We were talking about it at work the other day, a senior nurse was saying how she was one of the first people to have a mobile phone. Back in her uni days, she used to carry her mobile phone with her to lectures…and once it rang in the middle of the lecture and everyone was like …”What is that sound?”

It was her phone ringing…no one had a mobile back then. Apparently, it was like a brick…and it had a battery life of 2 hours..so you had to carry spare batteries to insert inside -once it died. Apparently, it did not last longer than a single lecture in class.

Funny how technology has changed so much….gone are those heavy bricks and now come in the super light, super battery efficient touch screen smart phones…

Soon it will be, phones? Whats that? You mean Iwatch!?>?! who needs a phone to hold, when you can speak into your watch?!!

We could have only imagined those in action here/sci fi movies 20 years ago. Funny how things have changed.

Key pads ? Whats that?

Do you have broadband? I believe it is do you have NBN now?

Back in the days we would ask each other for our phone numbers…or home phones..addresses!

Now all you do is look up their name stalkbook.com and you can add them as friend or message them.

Where was I going with all this?

Yes, technology is forever changing… if we don’t catch up …we will fall behind. While it is good to have skills in case technology fails..is it really worth all that time learning complicated maths formulas, algebra and theories when we can easily look it up online or plug it into some computer that is smarter than us? Should we use that time instead to advance society in other ways?

I heard pretty much every child and their dog has a phone, tablet and laptop now. Teachers assume kids have laptops and some even require them to have them in class. The world is changing, what was relevant and important years ago, is and may no longer be necessary. it is a scary, yet exciting time to be in.

As long as we remember that technology isn’t trying to replace us, but can help us, I don’t see why we can not just use it to our advantage. Use it to replace the pen and ink..and use  the keyboard to write poetry, fiction and writing. Use the computer to help you bring your artistic dreams to life. Use technology to connect with others online, keep in touch with loved ones and to create the future.

This sounds like an extended ad for Apple, but really it is not. It is just me fulfilling my promise to blog more when I got my new sexy laptop!

This laptop is waayyyy more faster than my brothers old brick…that lagged and didn’t work half the time 😦

So, I hope to be able to write more… 🙂 It feels so good to type on this thing. Things like a real type writer and the keys light up as I touch it…

but yeah seriously, I do not work for Apple.

Joy and Peace to you!
